Tractor Accident Kills 1 Man and Injures Another

We’ve heard of all sorts of accidents. Cars getting hit by tractor-trailers – motorcycle riders hit out of nowhere by speeding cars. But it’s rare to hear about an accident involving a farm tractor. Usually, these vehicles don’t really go fast enough to crash into anything. But that’s exactly what happened this past week in Lee County, Georgia.

A farm tractor was pulling two manure tanks down Highway-19. When the tractor had just passed the county jail, it was hit in the back by another vehicle. A man driving a Chevrolet vehicle came up behind the tractor and slammed into the rear manure tank. Sadly, the man driving the Chevy died upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the tractor was also injured. He was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital nearby and is being treated for his injuries. Thankfully, there were no passengers in either vehicle. The names of the drivers have not been released. The authorities are probably still attempting to reach their families or next of kin.

The authorities arrived on the scene at about 6:15 pm, not long after they think the crash took place. There is no information on what caused the Chevy to crash into the tractor. The police did confirm that the tractor had its triangles on and its flashing lights as required by law. They can’t imagine that the man driving the Chevy didn’t see them.

The investigation is ongoing and we expect more information will be released when it’s completed. In the meantime, if you or your family member is hurt in a tractor accident – or any kind of accident – call our office right away.
