According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Georgia Department of Transportation, these ten counties in Georgia had the most traffic fatalities as of 2022.

  • #1. Fulton County: 9% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 55,932 crashes, with 22,988 injuries, 178 fatalities, and 163 fatal crashes. Fulton County is home to Atlanta and five of the state’s largest cities. 
  • #2. DeKalb County: 7% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 38,810 crashes, with 16,476 injuries, 136 fatalities, and 128 fatal crashes. 
  • #3. Cobb County: 4% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 25,716 crashes, with 10,603 injuries, 77 fatalities, and 75 fatal accidents. 
  • #4. Gwinnett County: 4% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 26,522 crashes, with 13,331 injuries, 79 fatalities, and 77 fatal accidents. 
  • #5. Clayton County: 3% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 14,150 crashes, with 5,540 injuries and 64 fatalities from 64 fatal crashes. 
  • #6. Bibb County: 3% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 6,715 crashes, with 3,472 injuries, 52 fatalities, and 47 fatal collisions. 
  • #7. Henry County: 2% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 8,461 accidents, with 4,225 injuries, 44 fatalities, and 41 fatal crashes. 
  • #8. Chatham County: 2% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 14,530 crashes, with 5,343 injuries, 59 fatalities, and 56 fatal collisions. 
  • #9. Richmond County: 2% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 8,821 collisions, with 2,885 injuries and 39 fatalities from 39 fatal crashes. 
  • #10. Hall County: 2% of all fatalities. In 2022, there were 7,800 crashes, with 2,982 injuries, 35 fatalities, and 34 fatal crashes. 

Note that Bibb and Richmond are consolidated city-counties. 

What Georgia Cities Have The Most Car Accidents?

These cities in Georgia have the highest number of crashes. Below are crash statistics based on 2022 figures from the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Crash Data.

  • #1. Atlanta: There were 35,768 crashes in Atlanta that caused 15,117 injuries, 917 suspected serious injuries, and 98 fatalities from 88 fatal collisions. 
  • #2. Augusta: Augusta is the third-largest city in Georgia and a consolidated city-county. There were more than 8,735 crashes in August in 2022 that caused 2,861 injuries and 39 fatalities.
  • #3. Savannah: Savannah is the fifth largest city in Georgia and the largest in Chatham County. In 2022, there were 8,233 crashes that caused 2,770 injuries, 182 suspected serious injuries, and 19 fatalities.
  • #4. Columbus: Columbus is the second-largest city in Georgia and a consolidated city-county. In 2022, there were 6,802 crashes that caused 2,200 injuries, 208 suspected serious injuries, and 26 fatalities. 
  • #5. Macon: Macon is the fourth-largest city in Georgia and a consolidated city-county. There were 6,715 collisions in 2022 that caused 3,472 injuries and 307 suspected serious injuries. There were 52 fatalities from 47 fatal collisions. 
  • #6. Athens: Athens is the sixth-largest city in Georgia and a consolidated city-county. There were 5,222 crashes in 2022 that caused 1,802 injuries 115 suspected serious injuries, and nine fatalities. 
  • #7. Sandy Springs: Sandy Springs is the seventh-largest city in Georgia and the second-largest in Fulton County after Atlanta. In 2022, there were 4,985 crashes, resulting in 1,517 injuries and 80 suspected serious injuries. There were 11 fatalities from 10 fatal collisions. 
  • #8. Marietta: Marietta had 4,535 collisions in 2022 that caused 1,608 injuries, 96 suspected serious injuries, and 13 fatalities. 
  • #9. Stonecrest: Stonecrest had 4,100 traffic collisions in 2022 resulting in 2,066 injuries, 156 suspected serious injuries, and 15 fatalities.
  • #10. South Fulton: South Fulton is the eighth-largest city in Georgia, and the third-largest in Fulton County. The city had 3,266 traffic accidents in 2022 with 1,768 injuries, 130 suspected serious injuries, and 25 fatalities.
